Gutter Repair vs Gutter Replacement: What’s Best

Please call today to schedule an appointment for a free written estimate on gutter repairs and replacements, (512) 766-1256.

Customers often ask us whether it’s better to repair or replace their gutters, and there is no set answer. The answer will depend on the condition of your gutter system and your priorities.

We are happy to come out to your home and provide a free estimate. In the gutter estimate, we’ll include prices for repair and replacement options, and talk with you about the pros and cons of each.

In general, however, here are criteria to evaluate if you’re debating whether to repair or replace your gutters.

Extent Of the Damage To Your Gutters
Before you can make a good decision about whether to repair or replace your gutters, you need to get an accurate assessment of your current gutter system.

Here are signs that your gutters might need replacing:

  • sagging, warped, crumpled, or damaged sections of the gutter

  • sections of the gutter that have become separated from each other and/or the drain spouts

  • areas of the gutters that are pulling away from the roof

  • holes in the gutters

  • rust (which can cause an orangish staining on the side of your house)

  • loose nails and screws

Cost Of Gutter Repairs vs Cost Of Gutter Replacement
Once you know the cost of the repairs, you can better evaluate whether you’d prefer to have sections of your gutters replaced or the entire gutter system.

Performance Of Your Gutters
Another factor to consider when evaluating whether to repair or replace is how well your gutter system is currently working. If it wasn’t installed properly – or you’d prefer to have it reconfigured for aesthetics or better drainage – replacement is usually the best choice.

Curb Appeal Of New Gutters
Many people elect to replace their gutters in order to add value to their homes. By installing new gutters – especially copper gutters – you can instantly add beauty and value to your house.

Replacement Of Gutters Gives You The Opportunity To Upgrade
If you decide to replace your gutters, it might be the perfect time to upgrade. Today’s gutter products include not only galvalume gutters and aluminum gutters (in a variety of painted colors), but also copper gutters, which are gorgeous! If you switch from traditional sectional gutters to seamless gutters, you’ll also be getting a gutter system that looks more upscale and is less likely leak, clog, or require continual maintenance.
